Tropical Depression

Most of the people don’t know that both the hurricanes and storms are the same. These violent storms are sometimes referred as cyclones, when the storms are formed at the southwestern Pacific Ocean or Indian Ocean and when the hurricanes formed at the eastern Pacific Ocean or Atlantic Ocean. As per the meteorological studies, cyclones are divided into three stages such as tropical depression, tropical cyclone and tropical storm. Depending on intensity of natural disaster, these three stages of the cyclones are described. Among those three stages, tropical depression is least intense while the tropical cyclone is the most devastating.

An Overview of Tropical Depression:

During the formation of cyclone, tropical depression is the first stage in the cyclone process, as per meteorology. In other words, tropical depression occurs before the devastating cyclone occurs. Typically, the tropical depression is characterized by the blowing speed of the winds. Usually, the tropical depression is considered when the blowing speed of wind is below 39 mph. usually, the speed of wind is calculated at a 10 m height from above the surface of water. These depression leads to the formation of cyclone. Mostly, these depression forms in the planet’s tropical region, marine tropical air masses, hence they are referred as tropical depression.

Formation of Tropical Depression:

Mostly, cyclones occur in the tropical region, between 5° and 20° south and north of the equator, due to Coriolis Effect. Initially, in the region, a formation of low pressure zone occurs, which in turn responsible for forming a low pressure tropical wave. Due to the disturbance in warm ocean water along with the upper level light wind, makes the weather condition to form storms. Within a time, the tropical wave intensity either gets decrease or increase. If the intensity level gets increase, it reaches the organized area and results in heavy thunderstorms and showers. Then in this organized area, cyclones occur by blowing the wind anti-clockwise in the southern hemisphere, while clockwise in the northern hemisphere, which is referred as tropical depression. Mostly, formation of storms does not occur in the equatorial areas due to the lack of wind rotary motion in that area.

More Facts about Tropical Depression:

While the formation of tropical storm results in dreaded phenomenon, it is not that the tropical depression is of no less fearsome. Most of the people assume that even though the tropical depression occurs with a wind speed below 39 mph, will not cause more harm and cause only less dangerous. Most importantly, the hurricane storm formation can be increased by the tropical depression, because lack of obstruction on the ocean results in the easy increasing speed of wind. Even though tropical depression is a part of cyclone, but still there are many difference between them. Such as in case of cyclone, you can see a center part referred to as eye of cyclone as well as they form in distinct spiral shape, but in case of tropical depression, you can not able to find the both.
