An Open Letter to Gary Gnu
Updated: 4 days ago
It's Pam and it's been way too long, forty years to be exact. I know you're smiling down from puppet heaven wondering why no one is following your sage advice "No gnews is good gnews." Gary, if a person tried to avoid the news today, it's almost impossible because headlines come to us with very little effort. Resources like social media, people's mouths, and mobile apps are available 24 x 7. An app unfortunately isn't an order of potato skins, but a computer program.
The worse the news is the more hell-bent people are to discuss it and Gary it's all bad. Even you couldn't turn away from fires, floods, hurricanes, and crazy people boarding airplanes. What's my choice, Gary? I want to know what's happening in the world, but don't want to be tortured every day with sadness. Being caught up on current events was always important because I was scared a stranger might come up and ask me to find Bosnia on a map. I know there's no test, but my willingness to watch the news is waning.
Would it be acceptable to you if I just read the headlines, but avoided the news wormhole?
You and your trademark goatee and pink turtleneck made life bearable for me and I wish you were still around. I miss ya Gary!!
If you could bring back a character from your childhood who would it be? I would enjoy seeing Elmo...I know he's not gone, but whenever I hear his voice it make me happy.
If this post made you smile, please consider liking and subscribing to blog. OMG...I'm one of those people now.
